I would probably laugh too, but if in fact, he is serious about politics and his country, you should apologize. No one should be laughed at for caring about how their country goes.

If he knows nothing about policies and is picking it like one may pick a favorite color or number, laugh louder and get a new boyfriend.

I'd say one of my worst pet peeves is people taking a position on something they know nothing about. Or like the people who have no religious bone in thier body, but they say they are catholic because they were baptised so when they were like 2 months old.

Just apologize, and explain that it caught you off guard, hence, the laughter. Some of my closest family members and friends claim to be Republican. I don't dislike them as people- I just don't always understand what political philosophy they think they are standing for. Since no one seems to want to make political views a point of contention, or make them more important than a relationship between friends, it isn't discussed much. They know where I stand, and sometimes we are not that far apart. Friendships and family are more important to maintain than divisive political party opinions. Let others have their beliefs- but I think we all need to find others who share our beliefs and strive for an America that reflects our better qualities as a nation.

He's your ex, why do you care? Of course, if you still want to be friends with him, ask him why he'd want to be a republican. Try to be a bit more polite and not laugh at him again.

You would do well to apologize although a card might be much. Depends on how rude you were.

The best apology would be to learn WHY he thinks and feels as he does. If you are as "tolerant" and "compassionate" for "diverse opinions" as most libs claim, then this should be no problem, right?

Oh that's so funny.

Wow, it really takes a well-informed mind and a high IQ to defend your political beliefs by laughing in someone's face.

At least you didn't opt for Democrat brilliant debate tactic #2: profanity.

You are MUCH better off without a loser like that. Just think if ALL women did what you did, Repukes would go extinct and the world would be better for it.

Just being a republican is reason enough for him to be an ex.
