I would say that it is minor. A few countries have nuclear weapons and some are more volatile and generally unstable than North Korea. Pakistan definitely comes to mind. And Russia could definitely be viewed as unstable. North Korea is simply testing the waters here. These types of things are nothing new. The Bush administration came out right away with a public stance but this would have occured during any administration. We have seen these things before.

both.
Korea- human rights are not part of that world.and they kill anyone tries to see whats what...even their own people. read about the escapees and the freedom fighters there..so they are more scary.
but sure just cause they have it dont mean they will do anything foolish.
and anyone with a brain even a mean one is afraid of bush and the cowboys(not respect fear) like Russians were afraid of old cold war Ronnie and astrologically advised Nancy pushing the button.
fear will keep them quiet but respect and negotiation will change use of the big guns.
and without considering the negatives we feel about Korea on other issues... if i were that close to Pakistan and the other middle east issues id have something big-just in case- too!
and maybe that's all it is about.

maximum useful answer i will furnish you (IMHO) is that; China might play the two sides, Russia could probably go with to stay out of the conflict as long as NK would not do what they did the final time we fought them. Scratch that, the two China and Russia could sustain a correspondence if NK pushed into their international places if we swept for the period of their land. Iran could probably lend help to a pair degree yet i'm uncertain if i will see an exact Iranian military struggling with ours interior a similar conflict. understand this. international conflict a million began ninety 9 years in the past- 28 July 1914. What SPARKED the conflict (yet did not initiate it) became one hassle-free gunshot that throughout no way ought to have got here approximately. One nut interest desperate to pull the set off on an Archduke and from then on the situation grew worse. What i'm getting at, just about one hundred years later we are very lots interior a similar difficulty. All it takes is one little coincidence and the crap might hit the fan. wish that facilitates.

Well as nuts as Kimmy is this could be serious and could actually be a major cause of concern. But based on the seismic information, their "nuclear device" had a yield of 1/2 kiloton. This seismic disturbance could very well have been created by large quantity of conventional explosives. In which case this guy is just blowing smoke.

Unfortunately we just do not know what really happened, and as such we need to wait for an actual act of aggression against one of our allies for us to respond militarily. In such a response we should not waste our time doing anything other than flattening the place.

Until then we should let the international sanctions take effect.

North Korean situation is no Huffin and puffin. The implications are far reaching. The sanctity of non-proliferation has suffered a fatal blow. I will not be surprised if very shortly we hear Iran television announcing an implosion test. Where will all this end? What is the guarantee that these weapons won't fall in to hands of terrorists who are hell bent on murder and mayhem and will not stop at anything except great devastation. It appears whole world has taken the role of Chamberlain who sang "we shall have peace in our time" having pacified Hitler. This matter has to be taken most seriously and total blockade has to be imposed on North Korea to bring the country to its knees and roll back its plans if not an all out war!

N korea having and testing nukes shows us that U.N policy is of no value. So now any country that wants to develope nukes can without fear of any consequence. So that leads to more crazy people with nukes and a even less secure world. Technology in the hands of crazy people is passed along to even more crazy people which then leads to the constant threat of being attacked by nukes. An attack with nukes will lead to retaliation with nukes and since everyone will have them everyone will use them. World War 3 is right around the corner and we will destroy the world with nukes. The longer we can resticted the amount of people with them the longer we will live.

Kim Jong Il is no "big bad wolf". He reminds me more of a little pig. How a 5'4" (in his platform shoes), pot-bellied psychopath can maintain power over so many people baffles me.
Condie Rice says, "we will not invade".
Bush says, "we will not attack".
Kofi Annan says, "we must talk".
Rumsfeld has been tight lipped.

The key missing word is "response".

When the little pig fires one missile in aggression, "SHOCK AND AWE 2" will make the Original Shock and Awe look like the fireworks I set off in my backyard last July.

I believe alot of our dependency in N Korea is electronics and imports. We ought to ban their imports like Japan did to show our concern and that we don't take nuk testing lightly. It would put a major crunch in their economy.
