I've been a fan of both Holmes and Queen for over 25 years now. I also enjoy Alex Cross and Agatha Christie's Miss Marple.

Ellery Queen, Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple are all great ones. A couple of favorites from childhood - Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys and the Bobbsey Twins. But my favorite alltime sleuth -- Mrs. Polifax. Dorothy Gilman really created a great character here, and if you haven't discovered her yet, go looking! It will make you wish she was your grandma!

a million. i admire somewhat some names utilized in Harry Potter (maximum surprisingly Ginevra, Bellatrix, & Narcissa), Holden (Catcher in the Rye), Milo (The Phantom Tollbooth), Clare & Henry (The Time vacationer's spouse), Alex (A Clockwork Orange), Cordelia (King Lear), names from Cassandra Clare's sequence (mostly Isabelle, Alec, Jace, and Simon), Nick & Alan (The Demon's Lexicon) and somewhat some, many others that i can not even arise with on the 2d. 2. because of the fact they are notably. Or i admire the characters, and the characters have for that reason prompted the affection of a acceptance. 3. a number of them, like Clare, Alex, and Nick, case in point, are names that have the literary affiliation yet additionally are time-honoured names. So yeah. yet ... Cordelia, on a similar time as notably, won't artwork as properly as a known call, and Bellatrix & Narcissa will continuously be known as "undesirable adult males" in the Harry Potter books. So some confident, others no.

So many to choose from. Sam Spade, Inspector Clousseau, Hercule Poirot, Sherlock Holmes, J.P. Beaumont. The list is very long and I don't think anyone can give a difinitive answer, just the protagonists they like. Sorry.

Albert Campion by Margery Allingham. Harder to find these days but well worth the effort - he starts out as a vaguely Wimseyish silly *** but grows and changes with each book and becomes a real, original character who grows as the author did. He meets and marries and they grow old together.
I also like the Reggie Fortune stories of HC Bailey but you can only find those in second-hand shops.
