We should do but we have this anti-english party in power, 'can't upset the minorities' even though they're not offended.

Too many lefties

it incredibly is not any longer the dimensions of the battles interior the warfare, it incredibly is the importance of the victory. The victory gave us an entire new u . s . a .. a u . s . a . that maintains to be right here, over 230 years later. If we had 5 diverse republics interior the previous 200 years, yeah it in all probability may be much less substantial (something like 14 july). area of what we are celebrating is the certainty that the institutions we fought for continued for see you later. The British holiday i don't get is guy Fawkes Day commemorating an afternoon the Parliament construction did no longer blow up: an journey which wisely happens on a daily basis.

I think Hallmark the card makers would love us to embrace a UK day, St. Georges and St Davids day. I am sure they make a killing on St Paddies day! Its great to be proud but not for marketing purposes!

I always fly the flag on St. Georges day. My kids love it. I remember 1977 with real pleasure. All the flag waving for the Queens silver Jubilee. Yes I would like a UK day very much!

England and Scotland were United under the Scots king James VI who became the English King James I . He took the English throne in 1603. He joined both countries in that year!

I think its nice to think British people from all religions and cultures could celebrate our Britishness. We are afterall one of the richest and sucessful countries in the world. And so lucky! It could be a day for children to talk about citizenship and British people born overseas and all the richness of our multi cultural land as well as UK history! Cool idea!

I don't think so, some ethnic group will feel offended. There is always at least one in this time of crazy political correctness.
If you want to celebrate British culture, then you will have to include all ethinc groups that live in Britain (no matter how small, because Britain is so proud of being multi-cultural and open-minded ;)
If you want to celebrate a certain event, then it might be something to do with war, and then it would be racist, etc.
Oh hell, this correctness...

Why the hell not??
Sod offending the ethnic minorities. If you want to live in our country, live by our rules, our standards and observe our traditions.
We should have some kind of celebratory day in the UK as theres very little else to get excited about!

I doubt it. What have we got to celebrate? Taxes?

National Taxes Day - kinda rolls off the tongue doesn't it - almost as quickly as they roll out of your pay packet!
