Lawrence Taylor revolutionized the way outside linebackers but that was only because the 3-4 scheme was introduced when he started out and it favored him and all outside linebackers perfectly. If you look at what Ray lewis has done as an inside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme it was incredible, even though his stats were less than the years before that d was introduced at baltimore. In a 4-3 Ray lewis shits on people and in a 3-4 he just peed on them either way he was filthy. LT could not compile as much stats and not be AS dominating in a 4-3 so I take RAy Ray

Lawrence Taylor not only revoloutionized the way that football is played today,he revolutionized the way people think.He lined up at defensive line, linebacker (obviously),and in the secondary.Coaches gameplanned around him,LT won an MVP,and you could put him in a 4-3,3-4,dime,nickel,whatever you want.Ray Lewis is good,but last year he had difficulties with the new defense.He never won an mvp.He didn't revolutionize the game,and nobody at linebacker made a bigger impact on the game than LT.

As far as an impact player, Lawrence Taylor is in an elite class. He could do it all (i.e., pass rush, stop the run and pass defend). Ray Lewis is an outstanding linebacker but not in the same class as Lawrence Taylor.

Lawrence Taylor is the best there ever was. There are a couple of guys playing right now that are on the same level as Lewis.
