Preferably, I'd like to get pointed to a survey which represents how many people leave their computers running constantly. A bonus would be to know how many of those machines are connected to the Internet via a high speed connection.

To clarify for a recent responder - the question isn't geared towards hacking but more towards power consumption and available processing power. I read a report that said 90% of computers are idle while on.

That is a very hard question to answer, however I might say that there is no such poll taken. I have searched and the only thing that I found was that below. I might say that about 75% of peole leave their computers on at night. It doesn't take much electricity and what is the point of turning it off. I personally leave it on.

I leave mine on all the time. Its will shorten the life of your computer if you turn it off every night. It takes a lot out of a computer to boot up.

your question sounds very suspicious to me...thinking about hacking into computers maybe...not good...just remember that kind of thing can lead to jail time especially when the computer owner uses firewalls that give the pingers ip address and name.

Well 42.9 percent of Americans have Broadband internet.
I doubt you will find any info regarding how many of those always leave their pc on..

i use to ,but i don't anymore i turn mine off at night...I have 2 connected to high speed..
