I've been an MD in walter reed army medical center in washigton DC for 12 years now and we encounter this kind of rash very commonly and I'd like to tell you that you shouldn't be alarmed, my provisional diagnosis to your condition is that those white heads are just pupps.

don't mention it ... anytime.

No one knows what causes Puerperal Urticaria of Pregnancy, but some theorize it is fetal cells getting into your circulation, landing at the ends of little arterioles and attracting a foreign body reaction. Whatever it is, it does seem to be immunological in nature.

I have no magic answers, all I can tell you is what I did for a patient who came down with a bad case of it. I ended up putting her on Medrol dose packs, almost continuously by the end of the pregnancy. This is drastic, although she and her baby did fine. I would only do that in consultation with a maternal-fetal specialist. Good luck on a very troubling, but harmless, condition.

Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP), also known as polymorphic eruption of pregnancy, is the most common rash in pregnant women. It normally occurs in first pregnancies during the third trimester with an average onset of 35 weeks. The rash of PUPPP almost always begins in the stretch marks (striae) of the abdomen. It does not involve the belly button distinguishing it from other common rashes of pregnancy. The rash itself consists of small, red wheals in the stretch marks that grow together to form larger wheals on the abdomen. Over the next several days, the rash can spread over the thighs, buttocks, breasts, and arms.
The rash is very itchy, or pruritic, hence the name.
This condition is harmless to mother and baby, but can be very annoying. It lasts an average of 6 weeks and resolves spontaneously 1 to 2 weeks after delivery. The most severe itching normally lasts for no more than 1 week.
Your doctor should know about it maybe he misunderstood you.

Your doctor or midwife will want to see you for a diagnosis and will probably prescribe a topical ointment to give you some relief. In severe cases, you may need a course of oral steroids. PUPPP should disappear within a few days after delivery for most women. And fortunately, it seldom happens again in subsequent pregnancies.

PUPPP stands for "Pruritic Uticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy." In English, this means "really itchy rash gotten by pregnant women." PUPPP typically starts with an itchy belly. Lots of women get itchy bellies when they're pregnant, but women with PUPPP get really, really REALLY itchy bellies. This turns into a rash that starts on the belly, but may spread to the legs, feet, arms, chest, etc. for more info follow the link below or google PUPPP for treatments! good luck!!
