The short answer: It has to do with body hair. The more hair you have and the coarser it is, the more likely you are to have an odor. You will find that most Asians think that Americans stink. This is because they are used to dealing with people that have very little body hair.
On the other hand, people from Africa, and Central Europe generally do not think that Americans or Asians have an odor, but the United States, Japan, and China all stink as a country because of the odor when they get off the plane. That has to do with industrialization and agriculture differences.

There's a cashier at my local Kroger who is African, and this man smells absolutely horrible. He's the best cashier there (the fastest and most polite) so I always pick his lane when he's available. I deal with the b.o. LOL I've noticed many middle eastern people like this, too. I think it's because maybe in their birth countries, deodorant isn't very popular. They're just so used to everyone smelling that way, it's nothing to them. I'm sure they bathe on a regular basis, but maybe it's a matter of, "If we weren't supposed to smell this way, God would have made us smell like flowers or sandalwood or vanilla." etc.

People from many foreign countries aren't as concerned about body smells as americans are. Sometimes they just can't afford things like deodorant so it's not a part of their culture to use it.
To show you the other side of it, 2 friends were travelling in Syria and were a little sweaty, no big deal. In a restaurant, 2 men surreptitiously sprayed them with cologne!! So americans offended their noses with what we would consider very slight body odor.

Actually a lot of foreigners feel the same way about us Americans. What smells good to us isn't what necessarily smells good to everyone else.

Being mixed race young lady, does not make you immune from being racist. On the contrary you have fallen straight into the trap. Have you never noticed a white man with BO, or an Indian or a Japanese. Most likely you have but no, you bind up all the Africans in one bunch and make such a sweeping remark. Shame on you. Now if you had said that you sat beside A man or woman who was of African appearance and they stank of BO, that would not be racist. It would be either a lie or a fact. Not racist...............

It is probably their culture. In some cultures deodorant, perfumes and colognes are not considered to be attractive.
