I'm very interested in the job...bubbly personality, presentable, good at sales and speaking with people. I will be graduating college with a degree in science in 2 years. How can I get into that right after college? Also what does this job entail? A lot of travel? Are the hours long? Can you work on your own time eventually? How does it all work. Oh and what about the pay....?

I worked with a pharmacist that is married to a pharmaceutical sales representative. He said that it was an exhausting job that entailed alot of time, travel and an aggressive personality. The only benefit is that the pay is generally good. Personally, I would find the politics of pharmaceuticals difficult. I don't know if I could actively sell or distribute drugs that I didn't believe in how they were to be used or what benefits they had. Nor, would I take on a career just for the pay.

If, you are looking for a career in pharmaceuticals, why not try to become a pharmacist? The hours can become flexible with experience and the pay can be phenomenal!

it depends on what company you work for and your your manager is. typically the pharmaceutical sales industry has changed-it is not all that is was hyped up to be 5 years ago- a lot of traveling, a lot of waiting around at doctor's offices to have them see u for one minute, some are rude, some are very nice... hours can be long or short- u can sometimes cheat on the doctors you visited. pay is usually very good, bonuses are good- if you have a degree in science u are one up than a lot of people graduating- if you're trying to get in right after college if you know some doctors have them right u a letter or recommendation, maybe u know someone and they can submit your resume internally? it's all about networking to get the position. overall, very good job right out of college, that is, if u dont mind driving all day, have no problem wearing suits all day, waiting for people to see you, and ocasionally put on dinner presentations for doctors. benefits are awesome, that is a major plus... good luck to you!!
