Yes, it can be normal. Your entire system changes and your body needs to adjust. Here's my suggestion: Try taking a nice evening walk after dinner, but before bed. You should be advoiding caffiene now anyway, but especially in the afternoon/ evening. Try a nice warm bath with a good book and some candles before bed. A glass of milk can also help bring on sleep. Make sure your room isn't too cold or too warm.
Go get a book called " what to expect when you are expecting" by Heidi Murkoff. It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. I refer to it almost daily right now and I am due Feb 2, 2007. Your question as well as many others that you would not expect is in there. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not.
Good Luck!

It is very normal to have trouble sleeping throughout your entire pregnancy. I am in my ninth month and haven't slept all the way through the night for the past seven months. You got to love pregnancy.
The best things you can do to help are, no caffeine, if you exercise do it in the morning and not at night, try a warm bath or relaxing walk, don't nap during the day, develop a night time routine and stick to it, have a light snack before bed (don't eat a full meal late or go to bed hungry both with keep you up), fresh air in your room helps, stay out of bed except when you are ready to sleep, if you are getting up to pee don't drink after 6pm, try to get up at the same time every day, don't go to bed until you are tired and if you lay down and can't sleep get up and do something.
A bunch of these helped me out a lot! Good luck!

I didn't sleep good throughout my whole pregnancy. Wait until you are 35 weeks pregnant and can't find any comfortable way to sleep with the big belly you're gonna get. Not getting sleep only continues after the baby is born. I think pregnancy woes are the body's way of getting you ready for life with a baby.
Good luck!

A number of problems can contribute to your sleeplessness during pregnancy. During early pregnancy, the same hormone that causes fatigue during the day can also disrupt your sleep cycle at night. You may have trouble finding a comfortable position for sleeping. You may find yourself waking up several times throughout the night to urinate.

CONGRATULATIONS!! you might want to try a more natural way of relaxing, i would suggest a cup of chammomile tea before bed time and keep fresh sprigs of lavender at your bedside!! They will help relax and induce heavy eyelids
