I am constantly told that as a white man I am "holding people down" I want to know how.

As a 21st century black man, I can say you haven't....i think we both need to work on combatting the prevailing "gimme" attitude. You know the one that makes some irresponsible people seek public assistance to do things that they should do for themselves.
You see if a person is on public assistance and can find money to pay for a new car, cell phone, and the lastest fashions then we need to remove the public assistance and let the economy readjust their priorities.
Most blacks don't know, but Malcolm X firmly believed and preached that you should do thing for your self. These include take care of your childred emotionallly and financially, work for what you get, stay off drugs and away from criminal activity, build your family and show respect for your wife.
Currently more than 40% of the federal budget goes to entitlement programs.....that is wrong and we need to change it.

I really don't think that you have yet today. Of course, tomorrow is a new day, filled with new opportunities!

Just kidding - really.

Personally, I don't feel "held down by the man". However, I know a lot of people feel that the "urban plight" of today is a result of the actions of those before us, and many still feel that while making advances, blacks have been "held down" by this historical lack of opportunity, while many whites were afforded opportunities not as readily available to minorities (not that every white person had access either). As a result of the access to these opportunities, some races were able to advance more easily and today, the result remains unbalanced. Over time, however, many of the barriers have been broken down, and we're already starting to see a leveling of the playing field. Still problems remain, however. Urban schools receive less funding, however this now this impacts all races, not just minorities. It's less of a race struggle as it is a socio-economic class struggle. If you're a "have-not" it's much more difficult to become one of the "haves". Society has a long way to go. The problem didn't happen over night and it's not going to go away over night either.

Peace

Where do you live that blacks are telling you this. This is unprecendented! I've never uttered those words. As long as I can remember, i've always been the rogue to NOT let ANYONE hold me back from anything.

Seems like you're talking to a bunch of pansy azzes who are too lazy to make changes in their lives so their blaming in on the "white man." But, don't get ahead of yourself here. There are a bunch of white people who use blacks as scapegoats, too.

It's all fuked up. Rock and Roll, baby.

Cheers!

You haven't. And neither has anybody else, as I have not held down anybody myself. Those who say "The white man been keepin' me down" are lazy and look to someone else to blame for their own problems.
