I teach at an inner city high school and I am looking for tips to have the class behave. Talking to the parents is not an option becuase they do not speak English and I do not speak Spanish

Make it fun, everybody can participate when the atmosphere is NOT A DRAG.....and, I guess I'd incorporate language in there SOMEHOW!!! :-)

Tell the students, in a firm manner that you are here to teach, not be a babysitter, any one of you that do not sit quietly and pay attention in class will be removed, that you are not going to waste your time or others on someone that is not here to learn. Put the worst ones on notice, and then have an INS agent stop by, see what happens. Or you can send a notice to the parents that you want to see a copy of a real birth certificate, you are not obligated to teach illegal aliens in this country.

Hand cuff them to their desk and gag them. That's the only thing that will do it.
