In Chicago, Ill., I visited a Science Museum a number of years ago and saw a demonstration which might be neat for you to try and replicate.
They had a large dish shaped object made of clay or plastic. The upper edges were found and rather flat, just a slight taper downwards. Moving toward the center, the dish curved down into a funnel like apperature which had a hole at the bottom.
In the demonstration, a marble or ball bearing was tossed around the rim of the dish. It went around and around, moving closer to the center of the dish. As it did move inward, its speed of rotation increased faster and faster.
Entering the funnel like neck of the center of the dish the marble appeared to hang forever going round and round.
At last, the marble slowed down enough to fall out of the end of the funnel. The amount of time the marble spun around and around in the funnel seemed to be constant.
There should be some formulas you could propose for the time to drop through the hole. A great exercise. Making one of these demo models would only require a pile of clay, a ball bearing, and a table to turn the clay around and around to create the dished shape. Let it dry in an oven and you have a Demonstration. Really cool.
