Kare Kano, Fruits Basket, Love Hina, Gravitation, Getbackers, Full Metal Panic!, Orphen, Gundam Wing, Happy Lesson. There's a bunch. It just depends on what you're into. I recommend Full Metal Panic! the most though.

I think a lot of people forgot that you mentioned she's 12. Honestly, there aren't a lot that I'd recommend unless she was at least 14. Certainly nothing from Adult Swim. I would recommend Sailor Moon (magical girl anime, mild language, bloodless violence)

Pokemon

Digimon

Duel Masters (mild bad language, bloodless violence)

D.N. Angel (may contain bloody violence, bad language - I've seen this series and it isn't bad at all. Very cute, colorful, and full of fluffy-ness and fantasy.)

Fruits Basket - I'd say maybe. It's definitely cute, but it does contain some adult themes, and bad language, and family violence. (Teenage boys fighting like...teenage boys do.) You may want to watch it first, or with her.

Pretty Sammy (magical girl anime, mild bad language, bloodless violence) HOWEVER, under no circumstances should she watch the Tenchi series. Pretty Sammy is a spinoff, that should be pretty harmless, but the Tenchi series has LOTS of nudity and suggestive themes. I personally love it because it's really funny and entertaining, but I would never recommend it to anyone under 14.

I read recommendations for Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing, and All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku. The latter contains nudity, so I definitely would shy away from it. Outlaw Star contains lots of violence (weapons-swords and guns), nudity, and bad language. Gundam Wing...well, she might be really bored with it, unless she just likes mecha animes. It's also very philosophical. She'd probably only be interested because of the cute boiys. Otherwise, it's really for people with fairly long attention spans.

That's about all I can think of right now. If you need a good reference point for anime genres and age ratings, please go here: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/index.php

In all honesty, NONE of those shows are suitable viewing for any 12 year old CHILD.

Those shows are much better suited for...older viewers, who can understand the complexities as well as handle the MATURE themes involved.

I can't say that I've watched a lot of kiddie-Anime, though I think shows like:

Do Re Mi

Hamtaro

-Are more suitable shows for a 12 year old...but if it's animation you are after, I strongly reccomend everything Disney...heck, I still enjoy Disney animation as an adult ^^

If you like Mermaid Melody, try Full Moon wo Sagashite, Cardcaptor Sakura(more eps.)/Cardcaptors(less eps.)(depends on if you want subtitles, or not) or even Gakuen Alice(subs).

If you like Naruto, try Yu Yu Hakasho(sp right?), Runin Kenshin(sp right?), Inuyasha, maybe Zatch Bell.

well, if your talkin' TV cartoon network stuff, nothin else much. but if you watch it over the net, the your possibilities are close to a lot (never endless). i recently finished watching Ayashi no Ceres which was girly love story with mystical battle. i liked it a lot. but if your not completely moved by the whole girly blood anime stuff, then the boyish blood anime that would be good is Tenjo Tenge. it's a cool story (look up reviews on the net) there's two that you could find on Youtube.com

look at magical girl type anime, like the classic sailor moon, or cardcaptor sakura.

high school comedies are fun, like azumanga daioh or karekano. check the ratings though, as some high school anime can get a little racy.

any miyazaki movies would be delightful, like spirited away or my neighbor totoro.

You could try Fruits Basket maybe, or how about Love Hina? If you like more action than emotion, how about Outlaw Star or maybe Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku

you have to remember that in japan, anime is the same as tv shows are to us (meaning you'll be able to find your "friends", "csi", "masters of horror", and "punky brewster" in anime form) what she can watch will depend on what she likes to watch and what you will allow her to watch.

so if she can watch (from the looks of it) slight violence with weapons then she can watch things like "full metal alchemist" or "full metal panic: fumoffu" (don't get full metal panic or it's third season as it's a bit bloody and deals with wars and death, fumoffu is more light comedy), you can't go wrong with classics like "ranma 1/2" or "tenchi muyo".

you might want to look for shojo (girls anime/manga that normally features things like magical girls or romance... but make sure they don't have adult content) and a few shonen (boys anime/manga that feature more violence, blood, and gore)

if she hasn't seen them yet, you might want to have her watch some of the Studio Ghibli films (Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away were made by them, their other films are just as good if not better)
