Needing to vent, stick with me guys. Why do we place more importance and money on being entertained then the real things in life. Is it that we have such a bad lives that escapism is our only option? Why is it footballers are getting 20K a week and we are losing nurses, teachers, council workers who don't even get that in a year. ( I know, I know it's paid privately but it still makes you sick.
Yes, I am being bitter and it is a case of the green eyed goblin. I'm a teacher and can't even afford to buy a house and my wages have been cut by a fifth I found out today
If it was a choice between having your sick mother looked after, getting your children educated or a footy match which would you pick. Come on be honest......
Thanks guys I feel better.

Thank you! I have often wondered that out loud. Unfortunally we live in a society with totally screwed up values and priorities. We want to be entertained, we strive for instant gratification, and we don't stand up when we see injustices that don't seemingly affect us.

I am an emergency service worker and I live from paycheck to paycheck. I have to work nights, weekends, holidays, and during natural disasters. I can't get time off to go see my kids when they have performaces at school. A lot of times I can't even afford to put food on the table. Something is just wrong with that.

I, for one, do not go to any sporting events or go to the theaters, or pay the ridiculous prices they ask for at concerts. Partially because I can't afford it. Partially because it pisses me off that these people are paid more money than they can possibly use by doing something most of us do for fun -- while I save lives and can't even pay my bills.

I agree, footballers are on a scandalous salary. Though as you say this is not at the expense of nurses, doctors and teachers, except where those same nurses, doctors, and teachers spend their salary on football. But unfortunately it's part of being under a Capitalist system. You'll probably find that if you were living in a Communist country like Cuba, the Cuban footballers and Cuban teachers are all on the same level economically.

Amen and you're absolutely correct...also look at actors for another example. Other than entertainment what do they contribute to society other than their "pet charities" ? We are so "bass ackwards" if you get my drift that we over pay people who we could definitely live without and under pay those we can't

Preach it sister. This is the truth, and so sad as well. Teachers and others deserve to make good money too.
