when they are getting paid real money for the job they are doing. Okay, so maybe it is not their chosen career and they are not making as much money as they would like, but I know of no employer who pays with monopoly money for a job done... well or other wise. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but all the jobs I've worked have been REAL jobs. Thank you for letting me vent.

let's see, burger flipper, hardware tester, both work, both get paid real money, why not say when I get a better paying job? You couldn't get your whopper with out the burger flipper.

You may need to work at a job that you HAVE to do to eat, you may never get the job you LOVE... that's life. Very few are fortunate to get a job they love.

And lets think about people who have lost 'real' jobs that they have held many years and are now out of for various reasons. I did flip burgers, it wasn't my favorite, but I enjoyed my job, because I had a job, and I enjoyed the people I worked with. It's all attitude.

Its good to vent but I think you missed the whole point completely. You know as well as I know that for the world to go round we all must do our part whether large or small. There is no honest job that is insignificant, all jobs are important and someone has to do them.
But here is the kicker, no one starts out running. When we are born we must first learn to crawl then walk and lastly run. So take a student for example, since they are in need of work experience and money they take jobs that will help them for the moment. Remember that just because someone says that they are waiting for their “real job” doesn’t mean that it’s all about the money. A real job is a job that you love or are passionate about regardless of income or prestige. Those who work filming or studying various animal species in the wild don’t do it for money or recognition they do it because that is their calling.

Young people say this because they are angry at where they're working at. You mentioned that you were a burger flipper. Did you enjoy this job? Probably not. The phrase means that they can't wait until they go to work for something that pays more. The money is not worth it if you drag your feet to a job you really hate. Sure it is money, but think about the people who work at the meaningless jobs when the money isn't there no more and no duties to perform. I was working at an ice cream parlor. I didn't work there because I enjoyed working there. I worked there because of the money & I had to eat. After a while, I couldn't take it anymore. There was no more customers to be served because the prices were too high. So, it wasn't a "real" job because I didn't enjoy doing that duty. A "real" job is a job that people are in search of so that they enjoy going to work.

i used to work at a grocery store to me that wasn't a real job because i did not care about the company, customers, performance. I only worked there so that i could get money.I did not see myself with the A&P for the rest of my life. A real job to me is a company that you get benifits, 401K, Pention, some where that i care if i lose my joband what others think. I now have a "real" job care greatly about my proformance and what others think about it also. I can see my self with this company for a long time, I want to excell at everything i do her at cingular. i hope this helps you.

They mean get a job that will pay you a reasonable amount doing important work. Compare a burger-flipper at Burger King to a hardware tester at Maxtor. Which one is more "real?" That's what I mean.

young people these days. don't consider their after school job a real job. because it's just a lil part time. they think that the job they get that pays them alot of money is a real job. so its just a figure of speech.

Yes, nice venting. To them, REAL jobs are those jobs in their chosen field, the things they'd LIKE to be doing, not because they HAVE to. I understand where they're coming from, and I understand where you're coming from.

The term 'real' job or 'real' car will always exist until you're five months from retirement! No satisfaction with younger minds!

They want to grow up and have a career, because they think adults are cool and important and want to mimic them. Just nature, they'll grow out of it as soon as they get thier "real job"
