Not that I know of, but that is almost the whole idea of Lord of the Rings. Tolkien was a profession of Anglo-Saxon literature and it saddened him that the English had no national mythology that had been passed down, unlike many other countries, so he thought he would invent one.

Tolkien took his ideas from almost anyway, but for the basis of works, read Beowulf.

What a load of cobblers! Of course there isn't. In fact JRR Tolkein was an avid Christian (but I'll try not to hold that against him - he didn't know any better), and the Lord of the Rings has symbolism relating the Christianity, as well exploring the nature of humanity. So you could say the Lord of the Rings is based on a religion. If you ignore all the religious crap it's still a mighty good read though.

No. The closest thing would be Celtic Paganism, which Tolkein drew inspiration from. There are probably Chaotes out there (Chaos Magick) who do develop their own systems, though. Might be worth exploring the net.

by belief system do you mean something like tarot cards?

there is a lord of the rings tarot deck. but it was created by fitting the lord of the rings archetypes to the cards traditional symbolism than the other way around.

What you need to look into is Chaos Magic. The framework of belief is created by the believer, and is needed for the mind to shape the universe.

In other words, if you want that kind of system, make one, and use it...

I would hope there's no religion/belief system that is based soley on the books, even though they're excellent literature.

However, there is at least one book out there that shows how one can use LOTR in reference to religion/belief.

Yes Christopher, it's phoney and based on nothing concrete, unlike other religions that are based upon factual evidence that overwhelmingly proves that every word a religious person says is correct.

I sincerely hope not, but fear I'm wrong. Human beings have an endless capacity to concoct a religion around anything at all. Drives me to despair.

If it interests you, go ahead and make up your own religion. It can't be any worse than other other religion (all of them are man-made; I'm very proud of mine.)
