Find something you can easily use to help manipulate your focus.

The thing I use is my mp3 player. I put on some quiet music that won't distract me, and I'm once again awake in my physics lecture.

No one around you can bother you, for the fact that you can't hear anything when you are listening to your tunes, but you are also focused enough to try to concentrate on your own thing or tedious professor.

It works for me! And yes, I am actually listening!

Find a place that has a sound level you can tolerate. Provide your own white noise, such as a fan or some type of music you aren't going to sing along with. Decide what you need to work on the most and start with that. Set a time frame or an amount to complete. Take breaks at a pre-selected interval, this may mean going to the RR or getting a drink or.., but set a time limit for the break. If you are stuck with a subject come back to it, I find I struggle to study the stuff I dislike the most or the stuff I find difficult. Some colleges have study skills seminars you might check.

First, don't work for more than 30 minutes at a time, take ten minute breaks in between. Find a method that works for you, if its using index cards with different colored inks for notes, red ink being most important, use that. If you learn auditorally, use a tape recorder during lectures and play it back and listen to it several times. It has also been proven that soft classical music playing in the background helps you learn math.
