Personally,I don't think there is any comparison,Classic screwball comedy, classic voices by Mel Blanc, not nearly offensive like others out there.

Thanks to those that have chimed in.Except for full-length movie animation ,it somes like there is a vast wasteland of decent animated shorts that the whole family can enjoy. True, there are a few LT's that leaned rather racist (but were pretty much the norm for that period of time) and the violence was all cartoonish in which the characters had a remarkable way of surviving (no matter how many times they were shot, bombed,or whatever!!) I',m starting to build my own library of LT's to watch with my daughter cause I cant hardly bring myself to whatch recent cartoons that are either disgusting, immoral, or totally brain-dumbing.

I just find it so ironic that people were moving to censor Looney Tunes cartoons because they were supposedly so violent (you know, creatures getting blown up with dynamite and Wile E. Coyote falling off 1,000+ foot cliffs), but that doesn't hold a candle to the garbage you'd see in just about any given episode of Beavis and Butt-Head or Ren & Stimpy or even Ed, Edd, and Eddy.

Looney Tunes still rule the cartoon regime though. The comedy was pretty screwball but it made you think. The stuff you see on TV today is garbage. "Hey, I'm a total slug sitting here watching the TV, entertain me but don't make me use my brain..."

Well where to start...

First off I have a 14 mth old and have babysat many a neice & newphew and I can tell you that some of the cartoons that are out there now are totally disgusting, yet the kids are watching them.

The some of the new cartoons are o.k., we like Roly Poly Ollie and Dora, fun and educational and suitable for a 14 mth old to watch. However when looking for cartoons to share with my child its tough. I've seen ones with some sort of super babies that have snot hanging out their nose (disgusting), new modern animation (I'm not fond of) they are drawn very ridgily and sometimes I would think could be very scary to some children.

The old classics are great. We as a socitey need to take responsibility and teach our children that what they see Buggs Bunny doing is just made up and make believe and that it doesn't happen in real life. I don't think they are too violent, if you as a responsible adult teach your child the difference between what is real and made up.

So go ahead and enjoy those old classics, they are well worth the laugh.

I have fond memories of the old ones too, especially Bugs Bunny and friends. But there's some really excellent animation done these days too, with superb three-dimensional imaging. Will the next generation of kids be bothered to watch the old "flat" cartoons?

You're right, there is no comparison.

Classic cartoons - intelligently concieved and thought out, and many dealt, in a comedic way, with issues of the day.

Animation for kids today - no intelligence used in conception. NONE.

I miss the classic cartoons. I wish they were still on and that someone out their would make cartoons like that again.

It is very rare that I find anything on anymore that is as funny as Looney Tunes. Even my son prefers those classics.
