Hi,

We recently bought a detached house in Kent (uk) and had the fireplaces removed and the voids rendered, we've had a sweep in to check they're clear and he gave them the ok. But what do I need to do to make them fireproof and firesafe?

I'm thinking of tiling the floors with some natural slate, but not sure what to do with the rendered walls and back.

Thanks in advance,

Kev

You have to have a fire suitable tile, the wrong type can explode

For what? to use fire dogs and grate? If so, render will be fireproof. My best tip if you were considering that is,..get a logburner. I have tried both in my "void" log burner much, MUCH,... more efficient. If I've misunderstood question, can you elaborate?

fireplace drafty & loses heat even when lit, get glass doors or stove insert.
