Maybe they are staying damp too long before you use them again, air them in the dryer and put a softener that you buy on a roll at the supermarket in with them.
Wash them normally in warm water.
I wouldnt use bleach unless you want to reduce the colour of your towels in a very short time.Always wash your towels seprately to other clothing, they only fluff up other items anyway.

Have you left them in the washer for more than a day? If so, re-wash the towels using a small amount of bleach. If you are concerned about fading, there are some color safe bleaches out on the market.

Don't overload the wash. Wash the towels in smaller loads and try soaking them for a few hours. Use Tide with Febreze and dry them on high. I kept having this problem with my husbands work shirts and my grandma told me to stop overloading (even if it doesn't look overloaded often times it is). Remove them from the washer immediately after the cycle stops and put them in the dryer with fabric sheets.

there's mildew in them. you need to wash them with hot water, and rinse them in hot water. there should be a cycle for that. and you may not be using enough water. i ALWAYS wash my towels in the heavy cycle. it takes a good lather to clean towels properly. the thing about mildew is that it smells when it's wet. and washing and drying them can mask the smell, however it's still there. so perhaps you might want to get new towels and then never let them sit in a pile wet. just one evening can start the growth of mildew. GOOD LUCK!

the smell is from not drying your towels throughly. Next time you wash a load of "smelly towels" pour some hydrogen peroxide into the wash with your laundry soap, and let it soak for about 15 mins before starting your wash.

The first thing I can think of is that they are not dryed completely and you're putting them away slightly damp.
Try line drying after the dryer.
How is you water quality? Maybe a capful of bleach would help.
Dryer filter clean?

you in all probability left them in the washer damp too long and, based on the laundry room temp, they are going to start to bitter. as quickly as you dry them that's totally practically such as you dried the scent in there besides. using a textile softner sheet at that factor could have been able to hide up the scent. in the top re-washing the burden is maximum appropriate and using a textile softner is usually a solid guess to characteristic a delightful heady scent to the burden. desire this enables!

Try washing them in HOT water once in a while, I know we all want to save money but some times it's worth the extra expense.

How long do you let them lay in the washer before you put them in the dryer.? They will sour quickly if they are left wet.
