I Farm, urban expansion for one, roads , etc. Not only that but the cost to farm versus return. Minimum where I farm 1000 acres is what it takes to make it. Thats why I have another job. You would be surprised how much a 4 lane highway will eat up. Or a industrial park will reduce acreage, The population has grown over the years you have to live somewhere

yes housing development and expansion of urban areas are definately a cause in reduced ag. land. however, on the farmer's side, lack of resources to continue small farms and being out compete by farms that are owned by corporation may also be a cause in reduction of agricultural land as these farmers try to move on out into the big cities and find a different way of life. Social changes have a big impact on the reduction of agricultural activity as well.

How do you mean reduced? Are you talking about the over use of farming equipment and chemicals for agricultural purposes? Salinity etc?? All have taken thier toll on farming land. To put it simple the soil becomes tired or over fertilised and will not produce efficiently.
Salinty causes plants not to grow and there for takes years to recover.

The number of people living on our planet has never been higher and is constantly increasing.
This means that agricultural land is developed for housing, roads and infrastructure needed for this development.
