Because it is, for the moment, a "harmless" lie. But in reality it's still harmful. I would rather be brutally honestly told that I stink, so I know I should shower more, or take proper steps to smelling better. Not white lied to in my face, and talked **** about behind my back. In actuality a "white" lie is a cowards way of getting out of a tight situation... No honey! You don't look fat in that dress...

Because white is the color of innocence and an "innocent lie" refers to a lie that is not supposed to be very damaging to anything or anyone if exposed.

white lie means safaed jhoot in hindi which means that untruth which has no sign of grace in it & no little bit of truth is involved in that lie,like white color which has its own existence it can not be made by mixing any colors.

Because it doesn't hurt anyone. Ex: tell someone they are beautiful... you might be stretching the truth, but it makes someone feel good to hear a compliment.
