Rain does fall occasionally in deserts, and desert storms are often violent. A record 44 millimeters of rain once fell within 3 hours in the Sahara. Large Saharan storms may deliver up to 1 millimeter per minute. Normally dry stream channels, called arroyos or wadis, can quickly fill after heavy rains, and flash floods make these channels dangerous.

When it rains in a desert, it is a downpour...no drizzle. Flash floods often occur. I was caught in a rain in the Gobi Desert and we barely escaped from the valley we were in. In Australia, during the 'wet' floods often trap people and animals but they may have several years of drought between rains.

It can have a wide variety but some deserts are known for the danger caused by flash floods from downpours.
