Are you sending it from outlook, if yes then it is possible to know when they read your emails. You can do it by changing the option when you are composing an email.
Go to options of your new email and then check the box "Request a read recepit for this message"
Hope this helps.

You can do exactly as itguy says, but you still won't know for sure whether the recipient got it unless they click that it's o.k. to send the return receipt back to you. In other words, the recipient can choose to not send the return receipt back to you.
Whenever I get emails that have a request for a return receipt I rarely choose to say yes to the return receipt. I'm not saying necessarily that there's not a good reason why the sender needs it....I'm just saying that it seems to me for some reason rude, or perhaps an invasion. I know I'm probably overresponding, but it's just how I feel about it. Nothing against you using it :o)
Eeewwww, MSGTAG......how evil! It does it without the recipient knowing! Now, I definitely call that an invasion of privacy!

In outlook you request a receipt. Go to help in outlook, and search for "request a receipt"

You can fix a return receipt to it, but you can't know whether he read it. AOL did have that feature when sent to another AOL member.
