The only duties the mother of the groom has is to provide the food for the rehearsal dinner and help if needed decorating or anything for the reception. She is not really responsible for decorating or the reception but its good to offer her services if needed. I just got married last month and it is great. Congratulations and best wishes to you both.

I don't think there are any "duties" for the mother of the groom. My mother in law did all of the cooking for the rehearsal dinner. She also made a cake for the groom (my husband) which sat right beside the wedding cake. She did this because she wanted to and because she's a chef but it was voluntary.
