On Monday, my boyfriend had to go to his head office for a disaplinary for being constantly late at work. He is on his final warning now.
He has just been asked to go for an interview today for a much better job but there is no way they will give him the day off. He desperately wants to go for it but it means phoning his manager tonight and giving some excuse.
It's not going to look too good if he does this and he could get the sack. Any ideas

he works in security and the other day officer is on holiday....meaning there are only supervisors left to cover as no other normal guard are trained on that site, so it's going to cause mayhem lol

Does he need the whole day off? Could he call in and say he'll be late because he has a flat tire? Or better yet his girlfriend who works far away has a flat tire and is stranded? This is a tough situation, but if his interview is first thing in the morning or the last thing in the afternoon, he might have a better chance going in late or leaving early. How about taking the parents to the airport?

I would suggest telling the boss that he needs the time off for an interview. Obviously, if he's been having trouble getting in on time, they know there is a problem. It's possible this job is just not a good fit and he should tell the boss that he recognizes this and is looking for a position that suits him better.

Just get him to phone in sick tomoro and hope for the best! They can't sack you for having a day off ill (i think) - this is wrong... o yes they can... your boyfriend has already been in a disciplinary hearing for his tardiness to work... He is on his final warning... HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO he will get dismissed....
Your boyfriend needs to either request a day's holiday... if he has no holiday left, ask for a day's leave - unpaid... and his reasons... well only you and he can decide as to the reason but it has to be good, no pet deaths, no fake aunties funeral...
Alternatively.... he can call the company who have offered him a job interview and ask them to reschedule after work hours or before work hours... citing the excuse it is difficult to get time off work and don't want current employer to know that he is seeking a new role.
But, if your boyfriend is appointed by new company, if he is successful in getting time off for interview and the company are impressed with him................... They will be writing to the old company for a reference!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So be careful
Alternatively, your boyfriend can ******* well knuckle down and get his sad fat sorry **** out of bed on time in the morning by going to be to go to sleep and going to bed at a reasonable hour, so he can get up at the right time. Be organised, have your clothes laid out the night before, sort yourselves out so you are not so rushed in the mornings and get to work! If he knuckles down in his current role, the benefits could be good, i.e. improvement in performance and taken off final warning.... and possible more responsiblity and promotion and that equals more money!
Good luck

He doesn't need to take the whole day for an interview. Take the hour or so and tell them he has a doctor appointment or a dentist appointment or his dog has a vet appointment or he got a flat tire on the way in...just don't be a no call - no show or they will fire him for sure.

See if the interviewing company would be willing to do the interview over his lunch hour. Have your bf tell his boss that he has a personal errand to run over lunch and that he will stay late that day to make up the time.

how about not phoning in for the whole day off. say you have an emergency appointment at the dentists or your doctors and will need a couple of hours off and will be in afternoon time.
afraid thats the best i can think of - and also will look good saying that he is willing to come in afternoon - they wont just think hes slacking off work that way

Can the interview be rescheduled so that it does not interfere with his shift? Surely any employer would appreciate hearing that a prospective new employee does not want to leave his post unattended.

If he can he should take the day as holiday. If he calls in sick when he's not, and they find out, then it will be gross misconduct and he can be dismissed without notice. This would also affect any future reference from them.
