I like that first answer :) that was cute...

The reservations were made to help the Native Americans. The early settlers scooped up the land to build THE US , there were increased problems between the two so... there was a Peace Policy enacted so that Native Americans could have their land be able live their lifestyle, which was so different from the early settlers - There's always been controversy about it... due to the size of the land as opposed to the size of the tribes and the fact that a lot of them liked where they lived and didn't want to move - but in order to do whatever they wanted to do that was where the early settlers felt it was appropriate... now in hindsight, it is discrimination, and wasn't fair but it was a different world back then, it's heart was in the right place, because it was trying to make a compromise but obviously we all now know it wasn't the best decision. The US is totally different today and no Native American has to live on a reservation, but a lot of them want too, there are a lot of laws put in place now that try to help them - reservations are not what they were way back then.

It's good to learn about history, so that we learn from and don't repeat the mistakes of our past, but it's not good to dwell on them, otherwise we never move on.

Manifest destiny,

During that time the white man felt that ownership of whatever land they wanted and relocation to undesirable land for the Native Americans was their God given right. the Native Americans were considered heathens or godless and therefor less than.
