The way that birth control pills have historically worked is that they contain hormones that convince your body that you are already pregnant so that you do not BECOME pregnant. One of the side effects of this is that you do tend to put on a small amount of weight.

Nowdays, great strides have been made in different types and doses of hormones, and you may be able to find a type or dose that would function as birth control, keep your periods lighter and shorter and also not cause the weight gain.

Ask your doctor and they should be able to recommend the one that's right for you.

I gained maybe 5 lbs, but it could just be a coincidence that it was after I started BC pills. Maybe I just gained the weight!!??

It can in some people, but usually the weight gain is very minimal. You may gain 5 pounds, but it won't be a tremendous ammount.

Sometimes. It's a pretty common side effect. We're talking 10 lbs. MAX. Most likely just a little more padding. I'd say it's worth it.

I actually lost 15 lbs. when I started bc.

I didn't gain any weight (Ortho Tri cyclen) but have had friends who gained about 5. It's worth it not having cramps...and your period will be so much lighter.

Birth control pills cause hormonal changes in your body, and they make you want to seek out comfort foods. Do your best to stay away from them and resist temptation.
