My husband likes wolves, so our living room is decorated like a cabin....I couldn't live with just wolves, so I added bears, moose, fish, etc. So our tree is pretty rustic. We use pine cones and stars made from birch bark and rusted tin. I put on red cardinals and moose and fish. But my favorite are these rustic scrolls that all together tell the story of Jesus' birth from the Gospel of Luke. I have allot of ornaments that my kids have made over the years, but the only ones I really put on that "go" with the "theme" are made from brown paper bags sewn into shapes like mittens, stars and trees. Oh, and instead of glass bulbs, I wrapped styrafoam balls with torn plaid material to look like yarn balls.
This year I might do something different.....who knows???

My mother sets up a themed Christmas tree every year, the themes have ranged from a color scheme to a decorating theme...lately she has been so fond of her trees that she won't take it down until its time to put up the next one...one year she kept the same tree up for two Christmas'...Year before last we got the tree up and the boxes of lights into the living room but it never got decorated because she couldn't decide on a theme -and it stayed that way until the next year when she decided that Christmas was ruined, so there would be no decorating at all, and we left the tree up without ornamentation (two years in a row decorated and two years in a row bare)...I moved it out of the front room in August and won't help her "get into" Christmas anymore. (She is allergic to pine needles so she has to use an artificial tree)
My personal theme for the tree from now on is "invisible".

My theme is simple: Our tree squashes up nicely into it's box, as well as all the ornaments and lights. What doesn't get broken makes it to next year. After Christmas I buy cheap ornaments, they go on the tree, then into the box.

I put white lights and white and silver glass ornaments up on my Christmas tree. Then every year I pick a color and weave various shades of ribbon through the branches.
