I would take it to a store that offers gift wrapping services.
If you can't or just don't want to, then here's about the easiest way to fold it nicely.
Lay the dress flat on a table or bed front down.
Smooth any wrinkles, and pull the material taut.
If you can, use a flat board to help with the folds. And after you make each fold, smooth the crease and material so that it lays flat.
If it has a flared skirt, then fold each side in towards the middle so that it's all the same width from waist to hem.
If it has sleeves, fold them the same as a dress shirt. Start at the shoulder, and fold the material in so that the top of the sleeve lays parallel to the shoulder line. Then fold any sleeve length across diagonally so that the sleeve lays parallel to the side seams.
Fold the bottom of the dress up, about 1/3 of the total length of the dress.
Fold the top of the dress down to cover the skirt.
You should have a smooth, flat, dress that has been folded in thirds. The bodice of the dress should be facing up, the waist should be on the bottom, and the skirt should be on the inside of the folds. You can opt to use tissue paper in between your folds to help reduce wrinkles.
After you've gotten it folded, then find a dress box that is slightly larger than the folded dress. Line the box with tissue paper, and fold the tissue paper over top of the dress to help protect it. Then you can gift wrap it however you choose. You will probably have to ship it in a standard cardboard box, so get a larger one that you can add some peanuts or something, to help cushion the gift inside.
However you choose to send it (USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc...) spend the extra money for the insurance, tracking, and guarenteed delivery. That way, if it's damaged or lost, the company will cover the cost of the dress and your shipping expense.
