what are the main problems that occur due to misuse of anibiotics?

Everyone who ignores the dosage of their anti-biotics is responsible for anti-biotic resistance.

If a person is perscribed an antibiotic for days, 2 x a day for strep throat (for instance) they will start to feel better after about 3-4 days. But the bacteria is still in there, and just hasn't been killed completely yet. So if the person stopped taking the pills on the 4th day, the remaining bacteria will know what kind of an enemy they are up against and will know how to get around it. So when the strep throat remisses (in a week or two) they will have to be perscribed a stronger dosage. And so on an so forth.

So this person that didin't take the antibiotic the correct way could infect another person along the road with the new antibiotic resistant strain of strep throat, and by doing so (there are many people who do that) has brought forth (possibly) global ramifications.

If you are sick with a bacterial related infection or illness, pls take all your antibiotics - for everyone's sake!

This is a good question.
As the world becomes more and more socialist in nature, we end up taking the responsibility of the mistakes of others.

I get PO'd when the docs try to resist prescribing antibiotics for my sick child because they have a policy of "we don't want to create resistant bugs" when the real culprit is the crack addict with TB who is too stoned or stupid to complete the course of his medications.

Why should my kid pay for the stupid acts of some HUD / medicaid recipient?

Ahhh - but I've found a way around that - legally I might add.

Edit---
AndyOptic - ugh.. this only proves natural selection not all of Darwinian evolution. Same mistake AGAIN.

Well, this is classic Darwinian theory in operation, one in the eye for the creationists.
The bugs are doing what comes natural so the "blame" lies with the people who do not complete their course of antibiotics. We need education, science and more education for the not-too-bright out there.

Basically bacterias have two type of resistance...1st is natural 2nd is acquired...so in natural resistance they lack target site or metabolic prcoess that is affected by drugs....acquired mean some bacteria are notorious for rapid acquisition of resistance like staphylococi..tubercle bacilli....some are not like streptococus pyogen..this bacteria have not developed resistance to penicillin even years of use.so for prevention use specific drug rather than broad spectrum....use intensive and short course...for long therapy use combination of drugs...avoid indiscrmnate use...thats it !!!!!

Sure everybody wants to blame the doctors, but aren't the nasty little germs really responsible for their actions? I mean, really, stop pointing to someone else and accept responsibility at its source!

there are microorganisms that are naturally resistand to some antibiotics...thats why they are doing culture and sensittivity.....but there are superbugs called VRE and MRSA and they are result of mutation of microorganisms of people who have chronic infections and has been on different kinds of antibiotics...
