ROM is an acronym for Read-Only Memory. It refers to computer memory chips containing permanent or semi-permanent pre-recorded programs. Unlike RAM, ROM is non-volatile. Even after you turn off your computer, the contents of the ROM remains available.

ROM refers to READ ONLY MEMORY which usually refers to memory which can only be read and cannot be written into.
RAM for instance is memory which holds data temporarily till power is turned off.
But unlike RAM, ROM can hold data even if power has been turned off. It is usally used in places like the computer motherboard, to store the BIOS which is used to boot up the computer.
A CD-ROM is such a device, it can only read from the CD-R unless ofcourse if it is CD-RW drive.
The basic difference between a ROM and RAM is the time till which it can keep its contents.
ROM - does not lose its content if power is turned off
RAM - loses data if power to it is turned off

A class of urban hipster, fond of Beatlesque "mod" haircuts and white belts. The term is a contraction of "Romulan", an alien race from the original Star Trek series, possesing similar stylistic hallmarks. Later iterations took up a fondness for retro sneakers, t-shirts, pants, and updated variations on plastic frame glasses reminiscent of the 50's era.
