I remember that the late Celestine Sibley, a columnist for the Atlanta Journal and Constitution and author of numerous books, once found an opossum ( which we call 'possums in the South) living under the kitchen sink in her log cabin, which she had named Sweet Apple Cabin, which was also the name of one of her books.

If I found a rat in my kitchen, I would kill it. And as to what gives me the creeps, the answer is simply Mark Foley's penis.

I absolutely loathe & despise rats, snakes, spiders & all other vermin!! Yes, that includes field mice - which my daughter insists are just "so cute!". Ugh - I get the creeps thinking about them. We had a rat in the house once - just one rat. The Orkin man set out glue traps & it got caught!!! What they don't tell you is that the glue traps leave it alive, just unable to run away. It was a huge sucker, too - I had to get the trap, carry it out on the deck & it kept on trying to get loose, so I got the broom & beat it to death. OMG - it was horrible!!! I don't ever want to go through anything like that, ever again! The next time there's a rat in the house, it will only be my ex-husband - he's the biggest rat I know!

We did have a six foot long black snake get in the house when we lived out in the country - it was under the sink, curled up, when I opened the door to get the dish soap. I slammed the door shut & hollered!! I kept on yelling, too, till my then-husband came running. He laughed, said Oh, that's just Jake. He's used to coming in from time to time - don't mind him. Sorry, but ol Jake had to go!! I refused to live there with a snake in my kitchen cabinet, so the ex shot him when he crawled out from under the house & patched the hole in the sink floorboards . . .

Your question gives me the creeps just imagining what a rat in the kitchen would be like and the thought of spiders and snakes is just awful. I got the shivers when I read you question.

If I fould a rat....I would go the inhumane route (they are disgusting) and set a cage trap with poison in it. (That way it and others will die, but not die somewhere in the house.)

Snakes don't really freak me out too much unless they surprise me first. Normally, I think they are fascinating, so I leave them be.

Spiders get escorted outside the house with a newspaper.

Other vermin? Well, the snakes take care of those.

rats can get into a house by the tiniest hole. we had a rat issue this summer. It was a rainy spring and more rats were born. They wanted to move in. We had them in the kitchen. We werent dirty, we just had fruit avail. They LOVE bananas. So .. we blocked every avail place they could come in. and trapped the rest. ICKY

They carry disease, pee and poop on everything and can JUMP! One jumped at me and i thought I was going to die.

Thank jebus that they are gone.

if i saw it off guard and just jumped out of no where then YES i will get scared and probably scream, if not i will be okay, unless it is a lizard. I know lizards are harmless but i am terrified of them.

I would send my Jack Russell terrier to kill it. Snakes are ok...not cold and slimy like people think. I dont like spiders.
