I am getting the flu. I have a headache, chills, and feel very weak. I have to go to work today anyway. I can't afford to take off and if I don't go in , there isn't anyone to fill in because we are shorthanded in my department. There isn't anyone else in the store trained to work in the department rich requires performing alot of tasks and using different office machines and stuff. I have to work an 8 hour shift with any early lunch an hour after I get there (too early and ridiculous but there isn't anyone to cover the area after that) so I will be working 7 hours nonstop and dealing with alot of people (it gets busy). I am off tomorrow and can rest some but I have to get through today and I just don't want to feel worse. We have spy shoppers in our store regularly and if we dont ask everyone certain questions and smile and all, we get written up and in trouble. One of my coworkers got in trouble last week because she answered the store phone while checking someone out.

Kalidas is correct. Tell your boss before you start work. Tell him it's the flu and you hope you don't infect the whole store. Then stay away from the medicines with warnings about operating machinery and driving. Hope that helps. Sorry for your malady.

Best thing to do is to tell your boss that you're sick so that they are aware that you will not be at your best today and maybe they will give you a break. Also, make yourself some herbal tea or coffee and get some flu medicine. Also, have some soup for lunch and you will feel better. Drink lots of water or juice. Also, sudafed helps as well. It will help you work and make your head feel better. You can do it! I have faith in your ability to stick it out for just 7 hours. You go girl!

I get ill a lot over the many professional years I've been employed . I realize that I would rather stay home ill than go in to work. These are the following reasons:

(a) If you go to work ill.....You are gonna make other coworkers
sick also
(b) Because you are ill...... you may risk making a mistake or
simply doing a less than excellent performance at your job
(c) If you are ill......you're not going to be as friendly and upbeat
as you should be in business that caters to the public
(d) If you come to work ill.....all the above reasons will result in
the company loosing revenue:
(1)if you make other coworkers ill...they are gonna call
out too, which means no staff....no work gets done.
(2) if you are not at your best when at work then it will affect
production.
(3) if you're not friendly to the public...you will discourage
commitment and/or sales or whatever your goals are.

Try taking tylenol cold & flu. If you can pick it up on your lunch break or at some point. Make sure to take the daytime dose.

If you're the only one who knows how to do things in your department, they would probably miss you if you're gone.

As long as you let them work you to death and don't complain, they will. Take a day off and maybe they'll realize how important you are.
