MgO:
(Mg2+, O2-)
each Mg has 2 outer electrons they can donate. Each O needs 2 electrons to fill.

Mg(OH)2
(Mg2+, OH-)
OH needs only 1 electron, where as Mg has two, so 2 OH to needed to attach to Mg.

First. Correct answer is:

2Mg + O2 ------> 2MgO (because oxygen always comes in diatomic form)

Second part:

MgO + H2O -------> Mg(OH)2

That´s it!

Good luck!

...........dun really understand. but i will try my best.

empirical formula is those formula in the simplest form like MgO
Molecular formula is those with the exact number of molecule like (MgO)2 if i m not mistaken. the 2 should be small one.
2MgO means u have 2 molecule of MgO.

then the rest quite blurred. ??? ???
sorry cant help. i study this long time ago
