Take her out to dinner or the theater, just the two of you. Make it a special night, maybe get her a corsage and dress up, even if you just do dinner. She'll enjoy spending time with you.

I am a mother of 3 and the best presents that my children have given me were inexpensive. For example my daughter remembered that I have always liked VanGogh's painting of the starry night so she bought it in print and had it framed. to me it is just as beautiful as the original. My other daughter found a copy of one of my favorite books as a child and put an inscription in it that said thank you mom for teaching me to read. She was only 7 at the time. These are some of my greatest material treasures.
What has she told you that she always liked, about her childhood, Make a collage of pictures from your childhood and frame it, Tell her why you love her and what the best thing that she ever taught you was. I am sure whatever you do she will like it after all if you have been thinking about it this much you have to be a terrific kid.

I have the same problem with my mother, I have no earthly idea what to get her. So I cooked her and dad mom's favorite meal one birthday with a thoughtful card that let her know that i know I was a handful to raise but I am lad she went rough on me with discipline. The best thing you can do is show her that you turned out to be a great person and it was due to her.

I don't know anything about your relationship with her or your profenciency in a kitchen but it did make my mom tear up.

I bought my mom (her birthday just passed) a gift certificate from Burlington Coat Factory so she can get her a new winter coat. Gift certificates are nice, and she can shop at her lesure and get what she wants.

Well i know my mom likes really colorful things. So why don't you try getting your mom a ticket to a art gallory. I know my mom would love that.
