My son is 4 mnths. He had a cold last month and was so congested in his nose and chest I could have cried. Vicks makes a baby rub, it is wonderful, has a pink top and smaller jar, cost about 4 bucks. Rub on the chest back and under his little nose, it is not as strong as reagular vicks and has euculyptus. Steam the bathroom up really hot and steamy and sit for about a half hour at a time, wrap him up tight directly after leaving the bathroom, use saline and bulb syringe you should be able to really clear the nose after the bathroom and vicks. Also vicks has a plug in mini vaporizer that is almost like one of those plug it in air fresheners. But it releases vicks vapors into the air, I used it in the bedroom right above his crib, it helped him sleep at night. Plenty of fluids to keep temp down and watch for signs of ear infection. Good Luck!

My baby (3 1/2 months) just got over a cold. Put a pillow under the crib to elevate it. If you take a shower (with real hot water) put her in the bathroom. The steam will help. Get a humidifier. Make sure she's eating (bottle or breast). The dr. told me not to give her anything. I could only giver her tylenol if she had a fever. It's soo hard seeing them sick. I was wiping her nose every 15 min. Just give her/him lots of love. The dr. said it lasts up to to 2 weeks.

I was in your same position not long ago. At 4 months old, they can NOT have any type of cold medicine.

Elevate the bed or have him/her sleep in a swing or carrier (do not make this a habit, only when the cold is really bad).

Vaporizer in the room can help. If you can't afford one, it's not a big deal - it's not enough relief for the baby to strain yourself over.

Lots of love & understanding.

The person who said pedialyte is wrong. That's when they're vomiting & have diarrhea.

Run the shower with all hot water and sit in the bathroom with him, the steam helps with congestion. Also, there is baby vapor rub that you can put on the chest and it helps a lot. Above all, remember to keep lots of fluid in him. Breastfeeding is the best thing if you do it because it gives fluid and comfort at the same time. Lots of warm baths and attention are always good! Good luck!

My 4 month old son just got over his first cold and here is what I did (it worked great): First my pediatrican did not allow me to use any cold medicines. She said you have to wait until they are 6 months. I used Saline Drops in his nose and would wait about 2 minutes and then suck out what loosened up. Next, with a cutip I would apply menthol gel (like vic's - they make some by little nose's for babie) just on the inside of his nostrils so it would make it easier to breath. Additionally, I would give him two warm bath's to help loosen any phlem in his chest. But be sure to keep the bathroom warm and dress him/her in a warm place too -- don't let him/her get hot and then cold. Lastly, tons and tons of love and let them SLEEP as much as they want to. If you have your child on a schedule just let it go for a couple of days unless you cannot due to other restraints. I hope your little one feels better. But please contact your pediatrician before giving your baby any cold medicines. He/she may be ok to take them at 4 months depending on their weight, but typically you want to wait until they are 6 months. Most cold medicines have ingredients that can cause the heart rate to speed up and other allergic reactions can occur -- my two cents:-)

My son is 5-1/2mths old and he just got his first cold..What is working for me..I have a vaporizer in his room, I put a little bit of baby vicks on his chest, gave him a dose(.8) of Little colds Multi-symptoms med. and I am using the Little colds Saline drops to help his nose loosen up his mucus, wait a few min. and use a suction ball (they usually give you one in the hospt.) to take his mucus out since they don't know how to blow their noses yet ..He slept better last nite then the nite before when I was not prepare..Keep in mind that you also want to keep him hydrated which can be tough when their litl nose is all stuffed up and they can't breath..I notice my son is not eating the same because of it..Also, keep baby elevated..Of course I called his Dr. first to let her know..Other then that, there is not much else we can do since a cold is a virus that has to run it's coarse..Just do our best to keep them as comfortable as possible..Good luck..

Goodness! Poor little peanut...

Get a humidifier, some of that Vicks liquid that you can add to the water, and keep him in a room breathing the menthol vapors.

I rubbed Vicks on mine's chests, when they were little. I put a tissue on top. Some Docs don't see how it helps. I believe the warms and the scent of menthol helped them go to sleep, and unclog their noses.

And cuddle with him more often that other days. When they're sicky, they need it. Good luck

No chilly drugs at that age. Squirt some saline drops in her nostril and then get the mucus out with a bulb syringe. Take her in a steamy bathing room to help with congestion and have her sleep with a humidifier in her room.

saline drops in the nose then suck it out with a bulb syringe, use a humidifier, try baby Vick's and I also found Tylenol cold and cough works well if it last more then a week or he isn't eating or sleeping well he may need his ears checked. Good luck

i used a vaporizer, not sure how the docs feel about that these days, but I used one, not in the same room, it could get to strong, when using the vicks or whatever you put in it, but you could put it in the hall or near the baby's room.. and also buy the bulb thing to suck out the extra muckus in the nose... they have on the market the baby vapor bath, it too is wonderful... ask your pharmacist for some eucalyptus ,(spelling), it also helps... God bless
