Yes, it is my belief that if indeed you are on assistance and can't care for more children then some action should be taken. I am not sure that sterilization is the answer as they have depo injection now that works well.
I myself have a cousin who by the time she was 20 yrs old had 5 children and her parents ending up raising 4 of them. The state of California fixed that.

Sterilization is not the answer. How can we know which people are going to get on their feet and get good jobs? Plus you have to ask yourself will the government abuse this power over the public? The better way to stop this cycle is to put a time limit on how long a person can receive public assistance. I was on public assistance for a year when I was 15. Both my parents are drug dealers and I couldn't live with them. I didn't want to live in a foster home with people I didn't know so I got aid from the government while I got my GED and got some job training. After that I got a job. If the government had this power, would they have sterilize me? Who would make the decision whom to sterilize. At first glance your idea makes sense but take a closer look at the people and the government and there are a lot of problems with it.

I don't agree with sterilization, but I do think they should be cutoff from welfare and foodstamps if they get pregant while on the program. I know many people out there who struggle to make ends meet and are not eligable for that program. It's not fair for some people to sit on their butts and take free hand outs. I agreed with Clinton's policy to only be on that program for 3 years, then it's cut off. I'm sorry, but there is no reason why most of those mothers can't get a job. As for the trend of poverty, well I am struggling to make ends meet myself. I have a two income household and we are just barely getting by. It's impossible where I live to get ahead due to how expensive everything is. I however do agree with you that people who abuse the system do lack responsibilty. Thank you.

I am sooo with you on this. My sister used it for the way it was intended, she put herself through school for medical transcription and her G.E.D. then applied for A job at Lucky's (when it was Lucky's) then got off of it thats what it is for but A lot of these people are just using it because they like the fact that they can stay home and get paid for it I also work at Albertsons, and these people are eating better than I am! with their shrimp and T-bone steaks and I think, "gee.must be nice to be able to eat like that all the time" while I am getting chicken on sale and watching every penny that I am spending it irritates me that some of my hard earned money is going to these people that are abusing the system!!

Oh hell yes I could not agree with you more, people will get mad about this and talk about the right for people to reproduce, but this is absolute non-sense, people on welfare are taking our tax money for granted, the goverment has a large budget for those people that are on welfare while this money could be used for better things, yes they should put a limit on those people to stop this non-sense, because they keep on enjoying money that they are not willing to work for. the more kids they have it seems like the better it gets for them, while they are srewing us up, we all need to put a stop to this B.S. It their fault as well that aids is spreading so quickly, so let's sterilize those MTF. The goverment is so stupid, they should be giving condoms for free, instead of giving free money, bunch of morons.

I agree! Somethiings got to be done! It was, for a time, in N.Y. social services would be stopped when the child was old enough to attend school. So, by the time thier child was 5, they were expecting another! Same goes for these "starving" families in Africa! Why send them food and not birth control? They've got 20 kids to a family and re-produce like rabbits! Then, siit there in the mud, holding a starving child! Wake up world!!

Sounds pretty harsh, but something should definitely be done, because I know of too many girls/women that are on welfare that will have more kids just to get a bigger welfare check. I think that is ridiculous

I agree 100%. I am tired of paying for baby factories and lazy people too. Stop giving checks if someone is able to work but won't.

I belive that they should'nt abuse the system like that because there exists people who could use the help.
However, to play God would be wrong.
Who are we to pick and choose who should exist.
It's not our rite.

No, it is a free country; however, if they are doing it just to have kids then yeah. This is a grey area like abortion.
