Why is there such a double standard when it comes to free speech?

Why do liberals cry "free speech" and then try to supress free speech so much. For instance, the episode at Columbia University where mob of students(a socialist club on campus) rushed the stage and prevented the Minutemen spokesperson(invited guest) from sharing their views. When asked about it the protestors said that they were justified because the minutemen's position was not legitimate.(I guess freedom of speech has to be approved through them)

Assuming that the Columbia students had a right to do what they did, then why was a protestor at Barbara Streisand's concert met with expletives when he essentially did the same thing as these students. He heckled her as she did a skit mocking George Bush.

A third example is the lawsuit against two talk radio hosts in Seatlle for sharing their views on a peice of Washington state legislation that would increase gas taxes. The liberal government has gone after them and is trying to make it illegal to speak their minds.

the minutemen are doing this country a favor. those students at Columbia should be ashamed of themselves. they are typical liberals. they don't want to here the other side and then they resort to violence. they should all be arrested and expelled from the school.

Don't know about Columbia University nor do I know if the students were liberals, radical republicans or just confused students on issues. However, they also have the right to rebut the speaker. Though it is wrong to get physical on anyone.

Once again the Seattle radio talk show host also have the right to rebut anything that is said by the other side. Are they suppose to sit back and be silent when they don't agree with something.

You are obviously confused. The conservative do not like being talked back to or questioned. They expect everyone to sit back and take what they have to say.

A bit of a tangent: Did you see those Columbia students. They were so elitist. Which is ultimately the problem with free speech for the liberals. They believe they have the right to silence others, because : "well gee there SO much smarter then everyone else.". Same with Babs. How dare the little people condemn her joke. About the free speech thing i would like to Point sumthing out to everyone. Dick Chaney was walking into a mall when this person walked up to him and he started talking about why he has made some bad decisions...nothing obsecne or vulgar and then while he was talking about how he felt about The whole iraq deal. dick chaney just arrested this man for no reason! Now this guy is sueing dick chaney for falsly arresting him for no apparent reason. It happend last week i belive. Its just amazing how "freedom of speech" Can be taken away...even thuogh its in the constituion.
