I was discussing this with a bartender who swears the answer is Hall and Oates, but I didn't believe him. However, I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere online. He said he heard the answer on VH1.

I heard that vh1 programme on the radio as well.

Yeah, I think it's Hall and Oats too. It's the first US band that popped into my head when I read your question.

You might try Billboard Magazine's website. Since they do the charts they may still have that info available on the site.
