Ive just done this in Chemistry 1st first module of AS is nasty!! First Ionisation energy is the amount of energy needed for an atom to lose ONE electron (it doesnt matter how many electrons are in its outer shell!)

To find out ionisation energies do a search on google or try 'first ionisation enthalpy' as its the same thing. My teacher told us to do this - we didnt need to work it out for each individual element just had to find it on the web.

You should easily be able to find data like this in a Data Book, or text book. The AS Module Booklets also have figures for first ionisation energies. You are not expected to remember them in exams, but should be able to discuss how they change down a group or across a period.
