Well, I know that a good majority of his people did not like him and were very happy when he was overthrown. He was not a man to cross. It is true that he killed entire families for 1 person being insubordinate. That's enough to keep anyone in check. He also had good control of his borders. He did a great job at keeping Al-Qaeda out of his country. He was greedy and there is no way he was going to share his rule with them.

The reason he didn't have the problems that we have today is because they kept the Shias oppressed and threatened. When the Americans "freed" Iraq, we gave them the voice they never had. The Sunnis, on-the-other-hand, were always the voice and in charge. It's easy to see how the Shia would cause a threat by now having some power.

What we can learn from Saddam:

In this kind of ignorant, uneducated society, there is only one way to rule. Rule through oppression and with a murderous hand.

He did. It just wasn't covered by the media. The only thing you can learn from Saddam is how to gas the Kurds.

But thats not true They are fighting for the return of their beloved leader.

Saddam killed off family's for an act of one individual. he ruled with an iron hand. we should bring him back. he knew how to treat the animals in his zoo.
