Because games are more fun. The key is to make work seem like a game.

Its as simple as this.
Games provided a means of learning whether its learning that you first need houses before you can build a hotel or that sonic can't stand on those pointy things (it hurts him).
games are a useful tool and can teach people things they may need later in life, it is only recently that games have been completely transformed into a recerational item.
why are games fun? glad you asked. they use much more than just one part of our inteligence and force us to think for our self. on top of that there are the reward factors that make us feel good about achieving our goal. these thing may not be present in or at least apparent in their school days or doing chours.
Why is work boring?
Work, as it is put today has been simplified and reduced to make things fast and easier. ever since Ford came up with the idea of assembly line mentallity people adopted it and soon lost intrest in work because it no longer challenged them. Its tedious, little is learned. even with school work its repetious and children arn't using their full potentinal with the problems given to them.
then on the other hand if people are pushed too hard they may just give up on fear of failing. they hate the work because they hate to fail.

the fix. provide work in the scope of the workers abilty and allow them to find solutions and fully think things out for them selves. this will not only produce a better worker, but also a better product.

Kat has a good answer. Basically everyone likes to PLAY which is why it is called PLAYING and not WORKING. You get paid to WORK because you do not LIKE to work, so you have to be paid. Working is like playing a game that somebody ELSE wants you to play. If you liked to work you would do it for free.

Its basic human nature.

Given a chance, would you want to work...
(dont say yes - because you're passionate about it)

even a kid is passionate about playing like beckham is about football
