If he is, I'd sure like the Giant's to sign him.
If not, It would be nice if we could even trade him for Lowry, Hennasy, and/or Jamey Wright.

What do you think?

The answer is a definitive NO. A major league player is eligible for free agency ONLY after 6 years of major league service AND if that player does not have a contract for the 7th year. Chris Young is in his 3rd year of service and is the property of the Padres for 3 more seasons. Hope that helps.

Chris Young will not be a free agent after the postseason. However, Ryan Klesko, Dave Roberts, Woody Williams, David Wells and Chan Ho Park will be.

Chris Young is signed through 2007, with an option for 2008.

When his contract expires, he'll still be short of the 6 years needed for free agency status, so he would become arbitration eligible.
