" We should desist from aspiring for the fruits of our karma (action). The Gita exhorts us, Karmanyevadhikarasthe ma phaleshu kadachana (you have right only in action, not on its fruit).

Man is born in action,
sustained by action, and
ultimately merges in action.
Action is the cause for pleasure and pain.
Truly speaking, action is God for man "

Any thoughts from ur side to ponder?

All the actions that a man is supposed to do is predetermined. However, how the act has been performed is what matters. One joyfully does it, one treats it as 'to be done' and does it or has the attitude that 'I'm carrying the load of work on my head' and performs grudgingly. This alone will determine the next state that he will enter into... at rebirth. All in all nothing in your hands except the attitude.

Well, it seems to resonate with the overwhelming moral conclusion frequently reached in the West that "you cannot judge an action to be right or wrong by speculating about its consequences", i.e. the rightness of an action is only in itself, not in its fruits. It's (almost) amusing to see the logical tangles that people can get into by trying to claim that the case is otherwise. But perhaps the questioner's "right only in action" is using "right" in a different sense.

Normally people perform action with the desire for fruit. This is human nature. Almost 99% of people going to visit various temples and shrines have a desire at the least to get rid of their sins.Avast majority go for placing their desire and ask for fulfilment of the same. God is always pleased with such devotees. This is because they seek very insignificant and ephemeral things which he can grant freely. Hardly one in a million goes for asking the welfare of the lord and ask him what way can he serve him. Such devotee is so much in love with god that he has nothing in his mind except the pleasure of having seen the lords form. such a devotee places every thing he has including his body mind and soul at the service of the lord.
It is such devotees who see the lord and are redeemed from the bondage of birth and death. The others remain bound to the eternal cycle. That is why lord said do your duty without thinking of the fruit and you will attain me.

I think this statement is brilliant. Without action, we would be dead. When we act, life springs from it, and we feel good about ourselves. Action is the basis for living.
