Honestly, i'm torn. He's a heck of a guy i think, and a great manager. Just starting to think maybe the constant Steinbrenner pressure has taken its toll on him. Six years without a world series, and the yankees have won their division 9 times in a row!

I realize that most people will disagree with me when I say this, but personally, I think this is one of the best managerial jobs he's done as a Yankee (with 1996 being the best).

He lost Matsui, Cano, Sheffield, Pavano, for large parts of the season, and even Rivera and Giambi for other parts. From that point on, he led his team to the best record in the AL - and he did that with a subpar pitching staff.

He managed a media fiasco with A-Rod all year long.

They have one of the worst defensive teams I've ever seen.

And at the end of the day, and perhaps most importantly, he was expected to win a World Series with a pitching staff that, you could argue, was worse than any staff in the playoffs - both AL or NL. (I think the Cards, although their bullpen is a bit better, can't be considered better than the Yankees for the sheer reason that they only have one top notch starter, and the Yanks have 2.)

I know that the Yankees lineup was incredibly strong, but PITCHING WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS, NOT HITTING. That's always been the case, and always will.
Outside of one month of the year Detroit was better than the Yankees. But now, because of momentum coming in, Detroit is suddenly far inferior? That's rediculous. And any Yankee fan should know that momentum means nothing. Look at some of their championship seasons when they came into the post season having lost 10 of 15 or something similar. Doesn't mean a thing.

The bottom line is, if you were to pit the Yanks and Tigers up against each other on September 1st, people would have been very mixed in their predictions. But, suddenly, people forgot the previous 4 months of the season prior to that, and only remember the past few weeks.

If anyone should go (and Steinbrenner is not going to release himself, so that's not an option) it's Brian Cashman. He has a payroll of over $200 million dollars, and the Yanks are forced to start Jared Wright with the season on the line in Game 4 (who by the way is under contract for $21M over 3 years), and bring Brian Bruney in as a primary reliever in key situations (remember, he was flat out released by the Arizona D-Backs a couple months ago after posting a 7.43 ERA in a considerable 47 games). And that's not to mention needing to play Gary Sheffield at first base at different points in the series.
Hmmm..... I'm pretty sure I could have found better use for that money.

And I'm pretty sure Joe Torre is not to blame.

I honestly think it is time for Joe to go! The Yankees need a manger like sweet Lou!! He manages the players the way he played, with a passionate fire!! I think he was a better player than Joe, and he has a better feel. I even like Joe G., I wonder what he could do with a 200 million dollar payroll. Just curious since we have experienced what he did with a 15 million dollar payroll.

despite his successes over the last ten years, going to the playoffs the last six arent enough, . the team needs a little fire back and hes not getting them fired up.. we lost against a team that lost 12 of their last 17 games. lost the division on the last day by being swept by the royals while we were beating everybody up... the tigers struck out more times than any team in base ball but one and had the fewest walks but one.. their line up is a bunch of punch and judy hitters and they should of been destroyed.. sean casey? im shivering with fear.. are you kidding me? no they were sending out kenny rogers who pitched the game of his career.. wont happen again... bonderman pitched well and 100 mph fastballs are tough to hit.. verlander is a punk rookie who was already making excuses after the game twp rainout, but he threw hard.. while at the same time we were sending out creaky randy johnson he with the herniated disc and all... so he says.. and above all the biggest game of the year and jared wright gets that ball in game four, are you kidding me? once johnson was the starter i knew we were doomed.. but then jared wright? is that the best we got? couldnt the front office get us a couple of arms for the stretch? did they just think that we were gonna just blow the teams out of the game, every game? jared wright? cory lidle? mussina cost us the series cause he couldnt hold a 3-1 lead.. he lost it immediately too.. didnt even give us an inning of breathing room..cashman cost us the series cause he didnt get us a real couple of arms.. torre didnt light a fire under the team.. and arod is a take two strikes and hit a weak dribbler to the shortstop, infield popup, or fan with runners on base kind of a guy...

I have always felt that in baseball..a monkey could coach. It all depends on how the players perform. With the lineup that the Yankees have, no they should not lose but maybe they have too many great players. A lot of the times great players come with great egos and that could contribute to why they arent gelling as a team. To blame Torre is ridiculous. Sure they have a big say in what goes on during the game, but they cant hit for the players, cant pitch and cant field. Its up to the players to do that.

when you look at his contract, he's gotta stay for one more year. Lou would cost about $5 million, and Torre's getting 7 so you don't want to spend $12 million on a manager

No. They have made the playoffs all 11 years he has been manager.

He should go, but they confirmed he's coming back. He will finally go next year when they once again don't win the World Series!

No offense but,
I don't really care whether he goes or stays as long as the Yankees keep losing!
