My computer fail to boot up sometimes?

I have a motherboard with 24 pines of power cord but my power supply has only 20. In despite of that i made the connection (4 pines not connected) and it worked. I wonder if this may be the cause of these failures on booting the system some times. Also one time a blue screen appeared saying something with my hardware or software could be wrong.

If its a boot-up issue, then it's a hardware problem, most likely a driver issue or a bad memory module. Of course more information is needed to make a determination. Definitely not a power supply issue. Have you recently added new hardware or software to your pc? If your running Windows 2000 or Windows XP, view the event manager to see the failure. Chances are you won't because this is happening at boot-up, but it might give you some reference, for example bad hard drive, etc. If it's a software issue, you will be able to view the failure as well.

You have to give more information about your system, as:

Operating system.
HD size.
RAM.
Video adaptor.
Processor.
