=because being in love is enough sometimes to cause you to feel like you are insane especially if the feeling is not reciprocated and some people in love actually love too much and eventually go insane. Try to keep it somewhere in the middle and you will be all right!

No, he's just been watching "The Matrix Revolutions" again. :)
I think the phrase is funny; dunno that it's really accurate, though.
First, the "love" in question has to be "romantic love," since real calm committed love is very stable and not insane at all.
Romantic love is the stuff that drives people to do crazy things. Sort like being on crack -- you feel invulnerable and do all sorts of illogical things because you feel like it will all work out and no one will get hurt.
("Romeo and Juliet" is romantic love in a nutshell -- 2 kids thinking they'll beat the odds to the extent where cast members start dying and they end up trying a very risky plot... and it all ends in tragedy.)
Once, when dating my wife while she was still in college, I drove 5-6 hours in a blizzard to get to her house (in a large back-wheel-drive car, nonetheless!).
Why on earth did i do that? Because I could, and because I wanted to. Gaaaa. Still, that's typical behavior for those "in love."
So romantic love is pretty predictable. Insane, no. Crazy... maybe. :)

Sounds like you have never really been in love, else you wouldn't ask.
