I work in the afternoons so I tend to have my alarm set for 8 or 9am. I always end up snoozing for around 1-2 hours, not getting up until 10 or 11am. At first I just don't want to get up, it's so cozy in bed and I feel like it's nice to just lie there and listen to the birds, or the rain, or maybe I feel like I need 'just 5 more minutes'. But eventually it gets to the point where I can just step out of bed - I don't need to drag myself, it just happens, and once I am up I feel great.
I don't go to bed particularly late - I change my alarm depending on what time I go to sleep so that I get 6-8 hours. The snoozing is always on top of that, so I'm usually spending 9-10 hours in bed each day. The sleep I get is good quality, or at least seems so. I'm not ill, or worried or stressed about anything. I have things that I have to do, and like doing, but just can't get out of bed early enough to do them before work.
How can I change this? Diet? Exercise?

As long as your not late to work and you can get your "chores" done at night before you go to bed, why does it have to change? Maybe you are just not a morning person. Most people get up with just enough time to get showered and dressed before leaving for work. If you hours are later, then it makes sense that you will be getting up later. You are not being lazy, it is a normal routine. Yours just starts later in the day. There is nothing wrong with that.

First of all, you should ditch the alarm clock. If you don't have to get up for a set time then why use it? Maybe if there's no alarm clock interrupting the sleep you need then there would be no pressure either and you might not 'laze' until 11. But if that doesn't work then, still, what's the problem? It is much healthier and natural to wake up in your own free will and on your terms then being artificially woken up and chased out of bed. If that's your biological rhythm then don't force it. Good job you don't have to start work at 9am, otherwise you could end up with accumulating your sleepless hours and by the time you get to weekend you will want to do nothing but sleep. How nice is that? Spending your valuable weekend on catching up with sleep? I say if it ain't broke don't fix it and I think you are ok as you are.

I feel like this most mornings! I work rotating shifts meaning I have to get up at either 6.30, 8.30, or if i've been on nights around 16.00. If I've done two or more nights in a row I will sometimes go two or three days on just a few hours sleep. And sometimes on my days off I will go back to bed in the afternoon for a quick nap! In my case, I think it's cos my body got used to sleeping when it can to make up for long periods without sleep.
In the past I have been able to bring it more under control through diet and exercise. Taking vitamins regularly has also helped. I think anything you do to get more energy will help.
I have to admit though, certainly for me, there is an element of laziness. I just can't face leaving the snuggliness of bed to go downstairs and start tidying or washing-up!
I will be interested to read what others have said on the subject...

Get yourself something to do in the mornings that you want to do. Go out for a morning coffee, buy the papers, join a gym, check out your emails.
It might be that you feel you haven't got anything to get up for - so you are putting off that time til you go to work. But then you aren't getting to enjoy your non-work time.
Having said all that, I am the worlds worst at getting up!! it takes me 2 alarm clocks, as i have trained myself to relax during the first one, thinking to myself - it'll stop in a minute!! Even leaving it on the other side of the room doesn't help!!!
If you enjoy your time in bed, then don't stress about it!! Ignore everything I have said!!!!!

Sounds like you're diet may be lacking and you don't have any energy. When the alarm goes off, keep on sleeping but slowing awaken your mind and gain full consciousness slowly.
Also go to sleep at the same time every day and try to wake at the same time. Train your body to follow a schedule.

Sounds like you are getting just a little too much sleep - your body thinks it needs to go into hibernation! Try setting your alarm clock for the same time each day and get into a routine of GETTING out of bed, showering, and getting dressed -- that will help you to wake up.
Or................
Drink a huge amount of water before bed -- you'll get up early -- I promise!!!

I have the same exact problem!! People have told me to put my alarm clock on the other side of the room so I have get up to turn it off, but I just get right back in bed! I'm not sure there's a solution for this, but I'm right there witcha!

I have to get up and get out of the bed but I'm not able to communicate in the morning. I don't reply or show any signs of life until I drink a big coffee. Then I slowly start to turn alive.

Make sure vitamins are apart of your daily routine also, along with exercise and a healthy diet. I think you need to have a set time for bed & getting up, stick with it & stop changing it, that can mess up your mental clock.

I used to have the same problem so I would keep my alarm clock out of reach so i would have to get up to turn it off,then once your up you have to fight the magnetic force thats pulling you back under the covers but if you can beat that you can beat anything!
